Riders and drivers received an unexpected email and App messages from Bolt, formally Taxify, on the evening of Friday the 27th of March advising that the rider share company is terminating their ride share services in Australia in one day.
The announcement came as Australia and the rest of the world is amidst fighting the COVIT19 - Corona virus pandemic which saw cities around the world advise their citizens to stay at home. But this downturn in business could not be the reason why Bolt ditched Australia where it has been operating for the last two and a half years.
Bolt unlike Uber and Ola did not charge GST on its service fees since it operated as an overseas entity. Riders however did pay GST on their trips. Could this have something to do with it!
The drivers message read:
"We regret to inform you that we have decided to terminate our ride-hailing services in Australia, effective from midnight Saturday 28th March.
After almost two and a half years of operating in Australia, we’ve built up a great community of drivers and riders. We know that this decision impacts each member of our cherished community so this has been a very difficult decision to make.
We thank each and every one of you for your support in helping us provide the Bolt service to many riders and we wish you the very best for the future.
Authorisation to drive and removal of Bolt sticker
Effective immediately you are no longer authorised to provide passenger services under the Bolt / Taxify authorisation and are required to remove the Bolt sticker from your vehicle.
Outstanding payments
Any outstanding balance will be processed and made in accordance with current policies and processes. To ensure that you receive payout of all of your balance, the usual minimum balance payout of $20 has been removed."
and the riders received a similar message which advised:

You will still be able to move fast and affordably with Bolt in over 150 other cities across Europe and Africa.
Thanks for sharing the ride with us and stay safe out there!

Replied by roller on topic Termination of BOLT ride share service in Sydney Australia as of 28 March 2020
If you can not use the BOLT ride share App that is what is happening. Can not get a Bolt driver the App says no service at this location, try ... So n one now can book a driver via Bolt!
