So you want it to display an input box so you can enter the file name or an explorer window to pick the folder?

You also only the information on Word documents?

The other requirement about pulling a number, can you provide an example?

I am curious to know what you want to do, maybe I can help.

Hi, i provide basic admin support to a local charity and they have a server with a lot of files within it 90% being word documents ranging from Word 2003 - 2007

they utilise the advance document properties using "document number"; to uniquely identify what they create and save see attached image

so i hoped i could use a vba code within excel, that when run would prompt for a folder location "browse box"; and then list the documents with names and the unique document number used, or in fact all advanced properties attached to them, i cna then filter them out, does this make sense

I see what you want to do and I spent a bit of time writing the attached VBA macro. It has a folder picker and it will list all Word documents properties.

Try it out and if it does the job you can make that donation :cheer:

I added a PayPal Donate button just for you in the right side of this forum...

Ok let me guess you are using a version of Excel before 2010! Try this new attachment, should work with any Excel version hopefully.

:) hi we are getting there however three small issues i am sure

it is still not listing anything from the custom document properties screen, i have entered the information and will attached a test document for you to use

also, it takes an age, when i checked to see how it was getting on with only five documents, i find a file in use application only, asking me if i wanted to open the document in read only, or be notified when it was available, i selected read only and the macro finshed and populated sheet 2

but left all the word documents open, i had to manually close them, this is not good if its reading dozens of word docs
